What is it about?

This dutch book is about how to communicate data so people trust it, understand it, and act on it.

Organizations have plenty of data. They have reports, dashboards, and presentations. Yet people hesitate. Data get interpreted differently. Discussions focus on details instead of direction. Decisions are delayed or replaced by gut feeling.

This book explains why that happens.

For who is this book?

At its core, this book is about one thing:
becoming a trusted data communicator.

This book is written for business professionals who work with data, make decisions, or need to convince others. People who feel that “having data” is not the same as “using data well,” but cannot always pinpoint why.

After reading this book, you will never look at data, reports, or charts the same way again. And more importantly, neither will the people you communicate with.

What makes this book different?

This book focuses on the gap between data and decisions, and explains why that gap exists. Not from a technical angle, but from a human and cognitive one.

The book introduces a clear process, the A.R.T. model, that shows how trust is built or broken at every step of data communication:

  • Attention: what people notice

  • Recognize: what they understand and trust

  • Takeaway: what they decide to do

Data storytelling plays a central role. Not to decorate data, but to guide interpretation and convince people to move from insight to action.

Instead of teaching rules, the book teaches how to think about data communication. It helps you evaluate reports, data visualizations, and presentations through the lens of trust.

What makes this book different is simple:
it treats data communication as a process of earning trust and convincing people, not a design exercise.

"The book? It's not about tools. It's not about how to make pretty charts. But about what goes wrong between having data and making decisions."
